How much, I wonder, are our opinions our own and how much are they given by other people. How much do we allow our need to fit in to suppress our own desires and aspirations. How many lives are wasted because instead of following our dreams we try to conform to other people’s wishes, how many of us might have done things very differently had we not had parents?
Help is at hand, don’t worry. Yes there are all sorts of personal development experts out there only too willing to give you new ways to think…hang about, isn’t that more of the same? Well not really, your parents don’t make you pay for their opinions, at least not in cash. Actually I may be wrong on that! Seriously though, the personal development experts are happy to sell you a load of new beliefs to replace the one’s you inherited or adopted from others for free.
We try so hard to please others we lose ourselves, then we hope that others will show us where to find ourselves. It’s called self-awareness for a reason.
