Springingtiger's Blog

I looked across the park tonight
To the terraces of Kelvingrove,
Glowing in the evening light,
In this great city that I love.
My eyes filled with tears, unbidden
By the joy that filled my heart
With the beauty, yet unhidden,
Of this place of which I am a part.

Glasgow has been not always so,
Once full of poverty and pain,
Diseases laid the people low;
Until by Maxton and Maclean,
And by the force of labour too,
The seeds of freedom were sown;
Nurtured by a vision true,
They into paradise have grown.

Since those days, there has shone a light
Of freedom and hope in the dark.
A belief in power of right
And of Justice is Glasgow’s mark.
But now Tories would force us under
England’s will, our progress to thwart;
We will their cruel plans tear asunder,
They shall not break proud Scotland’s heart!
