The Light That Burns (For Janice Fawkes)

A light has gone out,
As they say,
But in this case
Not a cliche.
Janice made the world
A little brighter,
Her kind words made hearts
A little lighter,
She was a kind soul
Also a fighter.
She brightly burned
For the rejected
And the spurned,
For justice fought,
For all that ought
To be held dear.
Not only a light,
Rather a beacon
Summoning the right
To stand as one
Against the night
Of hatred and fear.
The light has gone out,
Not extinguished,
None could damp her flame.
But distinguished
For ever is her name
Among all those who care
For justice and right.
Let flame kindle flame,
Her light pass on
One to another,
So that the dark
Cannot smother
What she has begun.
Never cease to fight.
Lift up her light.
Much is to be done
Her flame still burns on.
