Neelam and I have just spent a couple of nights in the Strathblane Country House Hotel and we enjoyed ourselves. The hotel is only about eight miles from home, but we have never been there before. It is easy to reach by car, a straight drive along the A81 from Glasgow. There is also an hourly bus from Buchanan Street Bus Station that stops at the bottom of the drive.

We arrived later than intended and missed the last scheduled dinner service, however dinner was still in progress and the staff were happy to serve us. The food was very good. The first night I had mushroom stroganoff, I keep trying It in the hope that some day I will appreciate it. The stroganoff was as good as any I have had, the pilaff with which it was served was excellent. The pea and leek soup with which I started the meal was so good I had it the next night as well. The second night we both had broccoli and blue cheese tartlets, they were wonderful. On both mornings we had the vegetarian breakfast, it was cooked to order and very tasty. The dining room staff were very attentive and obliging.

Our room was very comfortable and I slept very well both nights. It was a good sized room with a large ensuite bathroom and the usual facilities. The housekeeping service was good and I felt comfortable that the room was as clean as a hotel room can be.

The hotel has large grounds and falconry and archery are available. There are plenty of good walks in the area and the hotel is well placed for exploring Stirling, Glasgow and the Campsies. A good place from which to enjoy the city while benefiting from the peace and quiet if the countryside. If you are looking for a place to stay near Glasgow, give the Strathblane Country House Hotel a try.
