Just Now

The early evening streetlamp glows red
Against the rain, slate, grey sky
Seen through slatted blinds.

In the vulgar, amber,
star-smothering aura of the night city,
But for now it’s just red on grey.
And black, bare, silhouetted branches. Just now Europe seems irrelevant.
