I Believe in Bernie and Jeremy

There is a narrative put out by the American Establishment that Bernie Sanders can never be president. In the United Kingdom the establishment is saying Jeremy Corbyn cannot be Prime Minister. What people need to understand that this is not a fact it is a belief based on their conception of society. The people of the UK and the USA have never yet seen an honest politician, a politician of integrity and principle be elected to lead the country and so they assume it can’t happen. It did happen in South Africa with Nelson Mandela, so it can happen, but as a general rule honest politicians don’t live to get into power. In the USA they tend to shoot them, in the UK they are just too cowed by the bankers to vote for them. We are told all the time that our every decision should be based on selfish self-interest, nothing is of value unless we can reduce it to cash terms. When we dare to believe that a better world is possible those who have most to lose in an unselfish society browbeat us into accepting our beliefs and dreams are unrealistic and so we make do with the least offensive of the choices they put before us. But are our beliefs so impossible?

We are told that a virgin once gave birth to a male child (scientifically impossible). We are told he was the Son of God. We are told he was killed, his body lay rotting in the Palestinian heat for three days and then he came back to life. We are told because he died all our sins have been forgiven. If you want utterly impossible beliefs there’s four for a start and yet millions believe and have believed them. Okay those who tell us to believe them don’t believe the one about being forgiven, you can tell that because they’re so mean spirited and miserable. However these beliefs have shaped our world, particularly in the West, they form the foundations of western culture and the basis of our legal and political systems. They may be unscientific, they may be illogical, they may be ridiculous, but they have been powerful enough to overcome objections and provide the context in which we live today.

We are told to believe that Jeremy Corbyn and Bernie Sanders cannot be elected. Compared with the Christian beliefs that form our society the belief that Jeremy and Bernie can lead us into a better world is both logical and entirely realisable. All it takes is for ordinary people to stop accepting the brainwashing of the establishment and to come out and vote, vote, vote. Those who are telling us not to hope in Jeremy and Bernie are the same people who cannot believe in the promise of salvation in religion; these hopeless people know themselves to be irreparably damaged and want to drag the rest of us down with them. The reason that Jeremy and Bernie can win is the same reason that allowed the incredible beliefs of Christianity to dominate the western world they provide a vision of hope.

It is wisely and truly said that ‘If you keep doing what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always gotten.’ If people keep electing Prime Ministers and Presidents who are bought and paid for by big business they will continue to get governments that exploit them for profit. That keep them in comparative poverty while financing the dividends of shareholders and the bonuses of bankers. That manipulate the media to conceal the conduct of those in power whether it be dishonesty or paedophilia. That allow people to be made homeless and starve while sqandering the nation’s resources on wars and the means to wage them.

The powers that be tell us that Bernie Sanders and Jeremy Corbyn cannot change the world and we should accept the lies we have always swallowed. I believe that The only hope this world has is for ordinary people to turn against the establishment with its paid for media and its police and armies and spies and to say “Enough is Enough!” This world belongs to us all and all we have to do is to reclaim our ownership of it. That would not be illegal, when the people take control the people make the laws. I believe that Bernie Sanders and Jeremy Corbyn can change the world if we support them. I also believe if the establishment allows its fears of Bernie Sanders and Jeremy Corbyn to deprive the people of this opportunity they have greater cause for fear in store. You can keep a people in despair, but once they have tasted hope, if you deprive them of it they may be left not with despair but with anger. Look back a hundred years to Russia and to Ireland and remember what the ordinary people did when deprived of hope.

I believe a better day is coming and I shall end with the last words of Dr. Martin Luther King Junior.’s last speech.

“Well, I don’t know what will happen now. We’ve got some difficult days ahead. But it really doesn’t matter with me now, because I’ve been to the mountaintop. And I don’t mind. Like anybody, I would like to live – a long life; longevity has its place. But I’m not concerned about that now. I just want to do God’s will. And He’s allowed me to go up to the mountain. And I’ve looked over. And I’ve seen thePromised Land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people, will get to the Promised Land. So I’m happy, tonight. I’m not worried about anything. I’m not fearing any man. Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord.”
