The Shakespearean Centre of the North

Since he died can it be four hundred years?
Since then how many plays by players
Have been performed, with their subtle layers
Of meaning wrought by the pen of Shakespeare?
How many generations have held dear
His characters beyond any compare:
Noble men, sweet girls and spirits of air?
All the human mind may conceive is here.

Russell Harty introduced, to the plays,
Many a pupil of Giggleswick School,
‘Shakespearean Centre of the North’ says
Tony Hancock and he’s nobody’s fool,
But it’s hard to convince a child these days,
William Shakespeare was once considered cool.
