A Grand Day Out

GUESS at the Old School House

The Glasgow Ubiquitous E Steampunk Society was disappointed when the West End Festival carnival parade had to be cancelled. Instead today we attended the community event at the bandstand in Kelvingrove Park. What a fabulous day for an open air concert! Although the main parade had been cancelled there was a mini parade through the amphitheatre in which we participated.

We seized the opportunity to add to our collection of photographs and also to hold an impromptu society meeting, not to make decisions, but to garner opinions and update the members on our activities. It was good to have a big enough turn out to make a meeting viable, and the nature of the event boosted the enthusiasm of the members. For those who sadly couldn’t make today, be assured that there is a program of interesting events being put together for the next few months and details will be posted to the Glasgow Ubiquitous E Steampunk Society Facebook Page this is also the page to visit for anyone in the West of Scotland interested in Steampunk. A number of our proposed specifically G.U.E.S.S. activities may also be of interest to the wider cosplay and reenactment communities as well and if the venues are suitable may possibly be open to the public.

An enjoyable part of any Glasgow Ubiquitous E Steampunk Society activity is the post event socialising that sometimes takes place. This time a group of us finished our day in the ‘Old Schoolhouse’ pub at the bottom of Gibson Street. We don’t always end up in licensed premises and try whenever possible to include all members present whatever their age or, to put it another way, we are sensitive to the needs of small Steampunks as well as their parents.
